A controversy has erupted over a Nazi logo on the wall of a Jewish religious school (yeshiva) in Brooklyn, New York, USA.
The incident occurred shortly after Zoharan Mamdani was elected mayor of New York City. The swastika symbol of German dictator Hitler has been painted on the wall of a Jewish school.
Mamdani has also given his reaction to this incident. According to the New York Post , locals had informed the police after seeing the swastika symbol painted in red on the windows and walls of the Magen David Yeshiva on McDonald Avenue.
Hitler massacred about six million Jews during World War II. Locals became angry after anti-Semitic elements painted the symbol on the school shortly after Mamdani was elected.
According to the international news agency BBC, Mamdani has reacted strongly to this incident. He wrote on the social media X , ‘This is a very disgusting and heartbreaking act of anti-Semitism. And we will not tolerate any such activity in our beautiful city.’
He previously said, ‘As mayor, I will always stand strong for the Jewish community. This kind of hatred in the city will be completely eradicated.’ Police have not yet made any arrests in the incident.
A suspect was seen on the school’s CCTV camera. The man, wearing black, rode a bicycle and made the sign on the wall of the Ishwa. Governor Kathy Hochul has called such activity an act of terrorism.
