Eighteen people have gone missing after an explosion at an explosives manufacturing company in the US state of Tennessee. About an hour southwest of Tennessee's capital Nashville, 18 people were missing in a large explosion that could be felt up to 15 miles away at 8 a.m. local time Friday at a company called Accurate Energetic Systems, which operates on the border of Hickman and Humphries counties.
The police suspected that the missing persons may have died in the explosion as it was a company that produces explosives for military and subversive purposes. Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis said the explosion left vehicles burned and buildings in ruins. American federal agencies, including the FBI, are investigating the incident. Associated Press (AP) reported that the
company released a statement through Facebook and described the explosion as a "tragic accident". The
company has also been producing high-end explosives for the US War Department and the industrial market. In 2019, the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration fined the company US$7,200 for violating safety standards.
