At least 1000 people have died due to soil erosion in Sudan. Sudan's rebel organization Sudan Liberation Movement/Army informed that the loss was due to land erosion in the western region.
This incident took place in the rural area of Marra Mountain in Western Sudan. According to the organization, this land erosion happened on 31st August due to heavy rains for several days.
The rebel organization said that a large area of Tarasin village was washed away and only one person is alive in that village. An appeal has been made for cooperation with the United Nations, other regional and international organizations.
The area with land erosion is under the control of the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army. This organization is fighting against the paramilitary Rapid Forces (RSF) together with the Sudanese army. Due to the war, many locals of the North Darfur state had taken refuge in the Marra Mountain area.
The civil war that started between the Sudanese army and the RSF in April 2023 caused suffering in the country and alleged genocide in the West Darfur region.
The number of deaths in the civil war has been told differently. But an American official claimed that more than 150,000 people have been killed since 2023. Due to the war, more than 200,000 people have left their homes.
