What you should know

Australia has said it will expel Iran's ambassador. Australia has accused Iran of directing the anti-Semitic attacks in Sydney and Melbourne.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said, "This attack is an extraordinary and dangerous act of aggression on Australian soil by a foreign country." Chief Mike Burgess has claimed that the Iranian government has ordered at least two or more attacks targeting the Jewish community, based on his agency's assessment.

Although Iran is trying to hide its involvement, Burgess claims that Iran was involved in the attacks in Sydney on October 20 and Marlburne on December 6 last year.  Similarly, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong has said that this is the first time that Australia has expelled any country's ambassador since the Second World War. Wong has said that Australia will maintain some diplomatic relations with Tehran, but the operation of its embassy in Iran has been suspended for the safety of its staff. Similarly, she requested Australian citizens not to travel to Iran.

Similarly, Prime Minister Albanese has said that his government will designate Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.

The Iranian ambassador to Australia, Ahmed Sadghi, and three other officials have been ordered to leave Australia within seven days. Iran has not yet responded to this Australian action.
