According to the Pew Research Center (PRC), the number of illegal immigrants in the US is at an all-time high. According to data released by the PRC on Thursday, that number rose to 14 million in 2023. Which is 2.2 million more than in 2022.

Earlier, in 2007, the number of illegal immigrants reached 12 million, according to the PRC report. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number of immigrants, with approximately 6 million people believed to have gone to the United States under some form of legal protection. However, since President Donald Trump took office in January, he has been ruthless on illegal immigration and has removed most of these protections.

The PRC report showed preliminary data showing illegal immigration continued to rise in 2024, although growth slowed after then-President Joe Biden tightened asylum policies at the border last June. After Mexico, the United States has the largest number of illegal immigrants from Guatemala, El Salvador and India.

The number of arrivals from Venezuela, Cuba, Colombia, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Ukraine and Peru is said to have more than doubled in the last two years. President Trump also claimed that 21 million people have entered the United States in the last four years in his address to the Parliament last March. The Federation for American Immigration Reform also estimated that there were 18.6 million immigrants in March.

The Center for Immigration Studies, which is in favor of immigration control, noted that there were 14.2 million illegal immigrants last month, down from a high point of 15.8 million in January. Homeland Security Secretary Kristy Nome claimed that the reduction was 1.6 million in the last six months and called it a "huge achievement". The Department of Homeland Security estimated that there were 11 million illegal immigrants in 2022, while the Center for Migration Studies submitted a figure of 122 million.

In 2023, 4.3 million Mexicans accounted for the largest number of illegal immigrants, with 9.7 million coming from other countries. California, Texas, Florida, New York, New Jersey and Illinois have the highest numbers of illegal immigrants. Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, New York and Oregon had fewer illegal immigrants in 2023 than in 2007, the data showed.
