Madonna urges Pope to go to Gaza

What you should know

Superstar Madonna has urged Pope Leo XIV to travel to Gaza immediately and save the lives of the children there. She asked the Pope to do so by posting an appeal on social media on Monday. Madonna also mentioned that her son Rocco's birthday inspired her to post it.

Rocco turns 25 on Monday.                                                           As a mother, I cannot bear to see their pain,' Madonna wrote.

'The world's children belong to everyone. You are the only one among us who cannot be denied entry," she wrote. "We need to fully open the humanitarian doors to save these innocent children. No time now. Please tell me you won't go. Love, Madonna.'

Madonna also mentioned that she did not take anyone's side in the ongoing war. "I am not pointing fingers, blaming or taking sides. "Everyone is suffering, including the mothers of the hostages," she said, adding, "I pray that they too be released." I am trying my best to save these children from starving to death.'

The Pope recently called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, asking the international community to respect humanitarian law and its obligations to protect civilians. "I ask once again to end this barbaric war and find a peaceful solution to the conflict," the Pope said.

According to aid workers and doctors, even children who had no health problems in Gaza before have started dying of malnutrition due to the blockade imposed by Israel for months and the chaotic supply distribution.

On October 7, 2023, a Palestinian militant group was attacked. Since then, Israel has continuously attacked the Gaza Strip. More than two million Palestinians have been displaced by Israeli attacks. And those in Gaza are facing an extreme food crisis. The United Nations reported in May that more than 5,000 children in Gaza were victims of malnutrition. However, Israel has been denying the food crisis and malnutrition. Israel claims that the shortage is due to Gaza being supplied with sufficient food and that Hamas has attempted to steal relief supplies and control aid distribution.
