Thirteen security personnel were killed in an attack by an armed criminal group in Adabka village, Bukkuyum district, Zamfara state, Nigeria. Eleven local volunteers (watch group) and two police officers were among the dead.
On Friday night, a large number of attackers attacked the village and kidnapped some residents. Hamisu Faru, the local MP, informed that the security team that was working to rescue the kidnapped was ambushed and shot at.
According to Faru, after the attack, the assailants hid in the nearby forest area, due to which there was difficulty in collecting the bodies of the dead. Similarly, several villages have left their homes and been displaced in fear of further attacks.
According to MP Faru, more than five thousand members of criminal groups are hiding in the forest area and are constantly attacking the surrounding settlements. "Air operations seem essential to bring them under control," he said.
In Nigeria, the army has been mobilized since 2015 to control such criminal activities, while the state government also formed a local security force. However, the violence has continued.
The federal and provincial governments have repeatedly negotiated and negotiated peace agreements with such groups, but those agreements have not lasted long. Last time, with the support of the government, some religious leaders negotiated with an influential group, but the locals are not able to fully trust it.
