The United States has decided to withdraw from UNESCO, an educational, scientific and cultural organization under the United Nations. The American side has stated the reason for separation from UNESCO saying that UNESCO adopted a prejudiced view towards Israel and emphasized on social and cultural issues that could cause controversy.

The US State Department spokeswoman, Tommy Bruce, issued a statement saying that UNESCO's current course of action is not US-friendly and inconsistent with national interests. She commented that UNESCO recently focused more on the sustainable development goals of the United Nations and promoted global ideological issues. In addition, expressing serious dissatisfaction with UNESCO's decision to accept Palestine as a member state, Spokesperson Bruce mentioned that this step increases the risk of spreading anti-Israel sentiments.

UNESCO promotes international cooperation and understanding through education, science and culture and manages the World Heritage List. This is not the first time that America has decided to withdraw from UNESCO. Even in the 1980s, the then President Ronald Reagan announced that the United States had withdrawn its membership from UNESCO, accusing it of being corrupt and pro-Soviet. Later, during the term of President George W. Bush, the United States returned to UNESCO.

In recent years, the United States has been critical of UNESCO. In 2017, President Donald Trump decided to leave the membership, which decision was reversed by President Joe Biden and the United States was reinstated. At this time, America has again left UNESCO under the leadership of Trump.
