The US Geological Survey reported that a series of powerful earthquakes occurred on the Far East coast of Russia on Sunday.

According to the local time, there were consecutive earthquakes of 5.0 magnitude and 6.7 magnitude at the beginning of Sunday, but it was not said that there would be a risk of tsunami. According to Greenwich time, another powerful earthquake of 7.4 magnitude occurred at 8:49 on Sunday and it is said that a tsunami wave may occur in the coastal area.

The USGS estimates that waves of 30 centimeters to one meter (3.3 feet) will occur on the Russian coast and less than 30 centimeters (one foot) in Japan and the US state of Hawaii.

The epicenter of the earthquake is said to be in the Pacific Ocean, about 150 kilometers east of the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

According to the USGS, the initial earthquake was followed by several aftershocks, including another.

The Russian Emergency Situations Ministry wrote in a telegram, 'It is estimated that the waves will reach up to 60 cm on the Commander Island in the southwestern part of the Bering Sea and on the Kamchatka Peninsula from 15 to 40 cm.' The

peninsula is the meeting point of the Pacific and North American tectonic plates. It is considered a seismically risky area.

Since 1900, there have been seven major earthquakes of magnitude 8.3 or higher in this region.
