At least 22 civilians, including three children, were killed in an airstrike on a Buddhist monastery in the village of Leen Ta Lu in Myanmar's Sagaing region.

The common people who lost their homes due to the armed conflict were living in the monastery as a safe haven. But at 1 am on Friday, there was an air attack on the main hall of the monastery.

According to eyewitnesses, many civilians were killed when the explosion fell on the monastery.

A local said, 'People who believed that the monastery would be peaceful and safe suddenly became victims of air raids.'

According to local residents, the monastery was completely destroyed and many bodies were found with dismembered body parts.

After the military overthrew the elected government in 2021 and seized power, Myanmar fell into a civil war. Since Sagaing is a strong area of influence of the rebels, the army has been repeatedly attacking there .

The region was also affected by a 7.7 magnitude earthquake a few months ago, which killed around 3,800 people.

Despite the announcement of a ceasefire, the army continues its airstrikes . Earlier, an attack in May killed 20 students and two teachers at the school.

Government spokesman Jaw Min Tun has not commented on the incident.

This incident has once again confirmed that civilians in Myanmar are still vulnerable to violence and insecurity.
