The death toll in Texas floods has reached 50

The death toll has reached 50 due to devastating floods caused by torrential rains in the US state of Texas.

Rescue workers are continuing to search for 27 missing girls.

Multiple flash flood warnings have been issued after water surged across communities in central Texas, with the Guadalupe River rising by 26 feet (eight meters) in just 45 minutes due to flooding.

Hundreds of people were staying at a summer camp in Kerr County due to flooding and a large number of human casualties.

Sheriff Larry Leitha of the flood-affected area said, 'We have rescued 43 dead people in Kerr County. Among them are 28 adults and 15 children.'

Other counties were also affected by the floods and many victims were found . So far (as of Sunday) the death toll due to floods has reached 50.

Texas Department of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd said air, ground and water forces are continuing to search for victims along the Guadalupe River.

He said, 'The search for all the missing persons will continue until they are found .'

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says he is extending the state's disaster declaration and is asking President Donald Trump for more federal resources.

Vice President JD Vance called the disaster an 'unfathomable tragedy' on Saturday.

Great loss of life

Freeman Martin, director of the Public Safety Department of the state of Texas, said that the situation has become challenging for rescuers due to continuous heavy rains.

Martin called this disaster a 'mass casualty incident'.

State and local officials have warned residents to travel in dozens of road areas, including the yamp grounds located along the river.

Video posted on social media shows homes and trees washed away by flooding caused by up to 12 feet of rain, which is about a third of Kerr County's average annual rainfall .
