At least 12 people were killed and many others injured in an explosion at a chemical factory in the Sangareddy district of the southern Indian state of Telangana on Monday.

A large part of the factory has been destroyed after the explosion.

District Fire Officer B. Nageshwar Rao said, 'So far we have found the bodies of 12 people and the search is still going on in the ruins.'

It is said that an investigation is being conducted to find out the cause of this incident.

In the scenes shown in the Indian media, thick black smoke can be seen rising into the sky from the scene.

Accidents like this happen sometimes in India . In most cases, non-compliance with safety rules is said to be the main reason.

The government expressed its condolences to the families of the deceased and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
