Disaster management officials said 24 people, including 12 children, were killed in heavy rains and floods in Pakistan this week after the onset of the monsoon.

At least 13 people have died in the eastern province of Punjab since Wednesday, the Punjab Disaster Management Authority said on Saturday.

At least eight children died when the walls, houses and roofs of the compound collapsed due to heavy rains.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa officials have said that 11 people have died in floods and landslides in the last 24 hours.

Four children and three women were killed, while six others were injured, the provincial disaster management agency said late on Friday.

According to the agency, 10 people died in the northwestern Swat Valley. According to the local media, the sudden flood in the area washed away the houses and the families living there.

Floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have damaged 56 houses out of which six houses have completely collapsed.

The National Weather Service has warned that the risk of heavy rain and flash flooding will remain high until Tuesday.

At least 32 people died in various extreme weather events including severe storms and hailstorms in Pakistan last month.
