At least 18 people were killed and four others were injured when a truck (lorry) and a microbus collided in Egypt's northern Menufia governorate on Friday.

According to local media 'Dostor', the dead were between the ages of 5 and 18 and most of them are residents of the Kafar Sanabisah village.

After the accident, Menufia's health directorate declared a state of emergency in all government hospitals.

According to preliminary investigations, the microbus collided with the truck while taking a U-turn at high speed.

Despite the government's recent efforts to improve roads, such fatal accidents are frequent in Egypt due to careless driving and poor road conditions.
