At least 34 soldiers have been killed and 14 wounded in an armed attack by the Islamic State (ISIS) on a military base in southwestern Nigeria near the border with Mali.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Defense of Nigeria on Friday, it is said that eight vehicles and more than 200 motorcycles were attacked in the attack in the area of Bani Bangou on Thursday. After the attack, the army has reportedly launched aerial and ground surveys to secure the area.
ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement. The ministry said it was awaiting further details.
This incident reflects the seriousness of the regional security situation and highlights the need for security forces to be more vigilant.
