At least 34 soldiers have been killed and 14 wounded in an armed attack by the Islamic State (ISIS) on a military base in southwestern Nigeria, near the border with Mali.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Defense on Friday, the attack took place in the area of Bani Bangou on Thursday. The attackers used eight vehicles and more than 200 motorcycles in the attack. It is said that after the attack, the army has started aerial and ground survey to secure the area.
ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement issued on its behalf. The ministry said it is awaiting further details.
This incident reflects the seriousness of the regional security situation and the need for the security forces to be more vigilant.
