Russia ready to support Iran's nuclear development: Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has addressed Israel's security concerns and said Russia is ready to support Iran's peaceful nuclear development.

Putin confirmed that Russia had detailed discussions on the issue with Israeli and US officials and sent proposals to its Iranian counterpart. "It is generally possible to satisfy Iran's interest in peaceful nuclear energy and at the same time address Israel's concerns about its national security," he said.

Noting that Russia has offered a "possible solution" to the ongoing tensions surrounding Iran's nuclear activities, President Putin noted that the final decision rests with the political leadership of Israel and Iran, which are at war. He also said that the high level of trust between Russia and Iran would allow for productive cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear technology, including cooperation in agriculture and medicine.

Russia has long been involved in other nuclear programs, including the construction of Iran's Bushehr nuclear power plant. Russia has also signed an agreement to build two additional reactor units at Bushehr, Putin said, adding that more than 200 Russian experts are currently working at the site. He revealed that Moscow has made an agreement with Israeli authorities to ensure security in the ongoing construction efforts.

Last Friday, June 13, after Israel launched "Operation Rising Lion" targeting Iran's nuclear infrastructure, tensions between Israel and Iran have increased. Iran also responded by retaliating. In recent days, as the attacks from both sides continue, both countries are suffering loss of life and wealth.
