Dozens of flights to and from Bali, a tourist destination in Indonesia, have been disrupted and canceled due to the volcanic eruption.
Mount Levotobi Laki-Laki on Flores Island erupted at 5:35 a.m. local time on Tuesday. Another explosion took place on Wednesday morning. After the explosion, a plume of hot ash flew up to 11 kilometers. The orange plume in the sky in the shape of an umbrella was seen even from a village 150 km away.
Local disaster officials have evacuated residents of two nearby villages to a safe place after the volcano erupted.
According to international media, there have been no human casualties so far. The local administration has evacuated nearby villages. According to media reports, Indonesia's disaster agency said tremors and explosions were also recorded on Wednesday morning. Likewise, the Geological Office has warned locals and tourists not to go within 7 km of the volcanic eruption area.
Densar International Airport has reported that flights have been disrupted due to the volcano. Apart from the capital Jakarta, flights from Australia, China, India, Malaysia, New Zealand and Singapore have also been affected due to the volcano. International media reported that at least 32 flights were canceled after the explosion, according to the Ngurah Rai Airport Office in Bali.
According to news agencies, flights from Australia, India and Singapore were more affected due to the volcanic eruption. Especially the flights of international airlines such as Jetstar, Singapore, Air Asia have been affected more. Likewise, the Indonesian government has ordered Maumere's airport to be closed until Thursday to ensure the safety of passengers.
Previously, nine people were killed and thousands of locals were displaced due to the volcanic eruption in Mount Levotobi mountain last November.
