Indian officials said on Wednesday that at least 200 people who died in the Air India plane crash have been identified through DNA testing.

A London-bound flight crashed into a residential area in Ahmedabad, killing 242 crew members and one injured. At least 38 people outside the plane died when the plane crashed into a building in Ahmedabad.

Distressed relatives are offering DNA samples to help identify their loved ones.

Ahmedabad's Gujarat State Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi wrote on X, '202 DNA (samples) have been found till 2 pm.'

The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed moments after take off. 

Indian authorities have not been able to explain the cause of the plane crash and investigators from Britain and the United States have joined the investigation.

Investigators are aiming to collect vital information from the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder black boxes recovered from the scene .

India's Air Accidents Investigation Department has upgraded its black box analysis lab this year. After the

accident, the Civil Aviation Regulatory Authority ordered an inspection of Air India's Dreamliner .

The regulator said Tuesday night, 'A preliminary examination of the aircraft revealed no major safety concerns'

'The aircraft and its associated maintenance systems were found to be in compliance with existing safety standards,' the statement said.
