Riyadh, a longtime rival of Tehran before reconciliation in 2023, on Friday strongly condemned Israel's attacks on military and nuclear sites in Iran.
The attack, which killed key military commanders and nuclear scientists, has raised fears of all-out war in the region and jeopardized US-Iran nuclear talks scheduled for Sunday in Oman.
"The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia strongly condemns and condemns the Israeli attack against the fraternal Islamic Republic of Iran, which undermines its sovereignty and security and is a clear violation of international laws and regulations," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
Describing these attacks as 'heinous attacks', the minister said, 'The international community and the United Nations Security Council bear a great responsibility to immediately stop this aggression.'
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that the operation against Iran will continue for as long as it takes.
With oil prices rising more than 12 percent, the attack has shocked the oil-rich Gulf nation with fears of widespread conflict.
In 2023, China mediated a historic reconciliation agreement between Saudi Arabia and Iran. Saudi Arabia and Iran have long supported opposing sides in conflicts in the Middle East.
Riyadh cut ties in 2016 after Iranian protesters attacked Saudi diplomatic missions following the execution of prominent Shia cleric Nimr al-Nimr.
