The United Nations has warned that the entire Palestinian population is now at risk of famine, saying on Friday that Gaza has become the "hungriest place on earth".

Talks to end the nearly 20-month-old war have so far produced no breakthrough, and Israel resumed military operations in Gaza in March.

Jens Lark, spokesman for the United Nations humanitarian organization OCHA, said, 'Gaza is the most starving place on earth.'

Rejecting the claims of the Israeli authorities, he said, 'This is a country or a defined area within a country where the entire population is at risk of famine, meaning that 100 percent of the population is at risk of famine.'

In a press conference held in Geneva, Lark also mentioned the difficulties faced by the United Nations in delivering humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

Israel has partially eased a total aid embargo imposed on the Palestinian territories on March 2 in recent days, easing severe shortages of food and medicine.  According to

Lark, Israel has allowed 900 trucks of humanitarian aid to enter the Gaza Strip after the blockade was partially lifted. But so far only 600 trucks have been unloaded towards Gaza and a small number of trucks have been loaded due to security reasons.
