US President Donald Trump has said that he will immediately start talks between Russia and Ukraine for a ceasefire and, more importantly, an end to the war.
Writing on his social network Truth, Trump mentioned that he had a two-hour conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday. According to Trump, the conversation with Putin was positive.
He wrote, "Russia and Ukraine will immediately start talks for a ceasefire and more importantly an end to the war". Its terms will be determined by the agreement between both parties.'
Trump has also given this information to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, through Truth. In addition, Trump also informed the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz and Finnish President Alexander Stubb.
Since then, Russian President Putin has said that Russia is ready to discuss an agreement with Ukraine for peace. However, he did not clarify the terms of the agreement. He wants to address the root cause of the crisis.
Similarly, President Zelensky of Ukraine has said that in order to end the war, Ukraine will consider a high-level meeting between Russia, America, European Union countries and Britain.
Zelensky has also appealed to the US not to distance itself from the discussion of this issue. He said, "Russia also needs to show readiness to participate in meaningful talks."
