US President Donald Trump has said that he is preparing for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to "stop the bloody war" in Ukraine.
According to a post on his social network Truth Social, Trump is having a conversation with Putin on Monday. Trump says the topics of conversation will be stopping bloodshed and trade. He said that more than 5,000 Russian and Ukrainian soldiers are being killed on an average per week in the Russia-Ukraine war.
President Trump has repeatedly claimed that the death toll from the Russia-Ukraine war is excessive. The number of dead as claimed by him is much higher than official data or estimates based on open source research.
Russian Presidential Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has confirmed that preparations are underway for a phone conversation between the US and Russian presidents in a conversation with the state-run news agency .
After the conversation with Putin, Trump is also talking with Ukrainian President Zelensky . He also said that he will communicate with NATO leaders. "Hopefully this day will be productive, a ceasefire, and an end to a very violent war that never had to happen," Trump wrote.
However, it is not yet clear whether Trump will be able to make any concrete progress in the peace process. Recently, Russia and Ukraine failed to agree on a ceasefire in the talks held in Istanbul. But in the talks, both countries agreed to exchange 1000 prisoners of war.
Lately, Ukraine has been saying that it is ready for a ceasefire. But Russia is not ready for that.
