Following an investigation into alleged dumping, China on Monday imposed tariffs of up to 75 percent on plastics imported from the United States, the European Union (EU), Taiwan and Japan, according to Beijing's Ministry of Commerce.
The new tariffs target imports of polyformaldehyde copolymer, a common plastic used in car parts, medical devices and household appliances.
According to the Ministry of Commerce on Sunday, those fees will be from 3.8 percent to 74.9 percent and will be implemented the next day.
The new tariffs come days after the US and China cut sweeping tariffs on each other's goods. Tensions have been temporarily eased for 90 days in a brutal trade war that has rocked global markets and international supply chains.
Beijing has repeatedly launched anti-dumping investigations against countries with extensive trade disputes.
In April, China imposed anti-dumping measures on EU brandy, affecting France's export-dependent cognac industry.
