Since Turkey has been proposed as a venue for talks between Russia and Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has asked US President Donald Trump to find an opportunity to visit Turkey.

In a video message, the Ukrainian president said he was ready to go to Turkey for talks. In a message posted on X, Zelensky also alleged that "Russian shelling and attacks continue".

Mentioning that Ukraine supports diplomacy, he expressed hope that the American president would support the meeting and have the opportunity to participate in it.

'Ukraine has always supported diplomacy. I am ready to go to Turkey. "Unfortunately, the world has not yet received a clear answer from Russia regarding the many proposals for a ceasefire," he said, adding, "Russian shelling and attacks continue." Moscow has been silent all day about the proposal for a direct meeting. A strange silence. One way or another, Russia must end this war - and the sooner, the better. There is no point in continuing the killings.

President Erdogan (President of Turkey) has expressed his full readiness to host the meeting, he said, "It is important for President Trump to fully support the meeting and we want him to be able to find an opportunity to come to Turkey."

In a televised address shared by the Russian Foreign Ministry, Putin stressed that the talks should be "without preconditions" and that Turkey should once again play the role of host under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

"We suggest to the authorities in Kiev to resume direct talks, which they themselves interrupted in 2022", declared Putin, "We propose to start the talks without delay in Istanbul next week on May 15." The place where the talks were held earlier. It is well known that Turkish colleagues have offered their services to organize such talks, and President Erdogan has done a lot to organize them in the past.'

Reflecting on the previous discussions, Putin said, 'At that time, as a result of those talks, a joint agreement was drafted and signed by the head of the Kiev negotiating team, but it was thrown into a small wastebasket at the behest of the West.'

He indicated that the progress was blocked. The conflict between Ukraine and Russia has been going on for a long time. This has resulted in significant human suffering and financial loss.

The Russia-Ukraine war, which entered its third year after Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022, has become one of Europe's most destructive conflicts.
