Nine people died and 70 were hospitalized after a boat carrying tourists capsized due to strong winds in a scenic spot in southwestern China, state media reported on Monday.

According to state broadcaster CCTV, 84 people fell into the water when boats carrying passengers capsized in a river in Qianxi city, Guizhou province on Sunday afternoon.

As of Monday morning, nine people have died, 70 people have been admitted to the hospital and four people are safe, according to state media. One is missing .

Chinese President Xi Jinping asked to make "every effort" in the search and rescue operations and treatment of the injured, according to the official news agency Xinhua.
