Russian President Vladimir Putin announced an emergency ceasefire for three days from May 8 to 10 on the occasion of World War II Victory Day, the Kremlin said on Monday.

Moscow said it expects Kiev to issue a similar order. In addition, the Russian administrative center Kremlin said that Russia is ready to respond to any violation of the ban on war. Putin also announced a 30-hour Easter ceasefire on the occasion of Easter. But during the ceasefire, both sides accused each other of attacking each other hundreds of times .

"The Russian side is announcing a ceasefire from the midnight of May 7 to the midnight of May 10 on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Victory Day". "All combat operations will be suspended during this period," the Kremlin said in a statement, citing President Putin. Russia believes that the Ukrainian side should follow this example. However, in the event of a ceasefire violation by the Ukrainian side during this period, the Russian armed forces will provide an adequate and effective response," the statement said.

Putin rejected a US offer of a 30-day full and unconditional ceasefire accepted by Ukraine last month . Kiev and its European backers accused Putin of announcing the 30-hour Easter ceasefire as a publicity stunt. Since launching its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Russia has occupied four large parts of Ukraine and claims it as its own in addition to Crimea, which it captured in 2014.
