An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale occurred in Istanbul and surrounding areas in Turkey on Wednesday afternoon. According to Turkey's disaster management agency, there have been no reports of human casualties so far.

The epicenter of the earthquake was about 40 kilometers away from Istanbul, in the Marmara Sea. Its shock was felt as far as Tekirdag, Yalova, Bursa, Balikesir and Izmir.

Many people fled to the streets when the earthquake struck. In some places, it is reported that people were injured when they jumped from the building. An old vacant building has been reported to have been demolished.
