The escalating US-China trade war

The trade war between the US and China is expected to escalate. US President Donald Trump has accused China of withdrawing from the Boeing deal and said it is in China's hands whether to negotiate or not.

The ball is in China's court. China has to deal with us. We don't have to make a deal with them," said the statement read by Carolyn Levitt, press secretary of the US President's Office  White House.

The new warning came as Trump said that China had backed out of a major contract with the American aviation company Boeing. According to a Bloomberg news report, Beijing has ordered airlines not to take Boeing Company planes.

China has warned it is 'not afraid' of a trade war with the US after Trump said it was up to Beijing to come to the negotiating table. Lin Jian of the Chinese Foreign Ministry has claimed that America is not serious about solving the problem through negotiations.

"If the US really wants to solve the problem through dialogue and negotiation, it should stop the policy of excessive pressure such as warnings and blackmailing and negotiate with China on the basis of equality, respect and mutual benefit," said Lin Jian. But he has again called on America for talks.

Likewise, speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) Sheng Liyun said that the US tax will put pressure on China's foreign trade and economy. He says that China's economy is flexible and should improve in the long run. "We strongly oppose the US practice of import tariffs and trade intimidation," Seng said.

He says that the American decision violates the economic laws and principles of the World Trade Organization. "This will have a serious impact on the global economic system and weaken the recovery of the global economy," he said.

Earlier this week, Chinese state media China Daily called the US behavior "capricious and disastrous" in an editorial. The editorial states that people should stop complaining about being victimized in global trade. America has not been cheated by anyone. Instead it is riding the train of globalization freely,” the editorial said.

Trump initially imposed tariffs on Chinese imports, claiming China's role in the fentanyl supply chain. Since then, the two countries have been embroiled in a trade war. US President Donald Trump has already imposed an additional 145 percent import tax on most goods from China. Beijing has also imposed a retaliatory 125 percent tariff on US imports.

But the Trump administration has granted temporary exemptions from the latest tax hike on some tech products like smartphones and laptops. But on Tuesday, US President Trump said the ball is in China's court. In response, Lin said, "This tax war was started by the US and China's position is clear that no one wins in a tax war or a trade war." This means, China does not want to go to war. But, if it falls, he is not afraid to face it.'
