Donald Trump had a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, within three weeks of his tenure as US President. The two leaders not only talked about ending the war in Ukraine, but also invited each other to visit their respective countries.

A week after the telephone conversation between Trump and Putin, the two countries also held foreign minister level talks. In the talks held in Saudi Arabia, an agreement was reached between the high-level team to end the Russia-Ukraine war. On top of that, in the United Nations General Assembly vote on February 25, the United States unexpectedly voted in favor of Russia. Voted against the resolution holding Russia fully responsible for the attack on Ukraine.

On the other hand, Russian President Putin made an unexpected offer to America . He proposed cooperation with the US for the development of Russia's rare mineral reserves, including the Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia. With the return of Trump, the relationship between America and Russia was seen to be the smoothest in history. 

But recently, it is estimated that there has been some rift in the relationship between the two leaders . However, American President Trump is known as an uncertain leader. But the latest expression shows that Trump is angry with Putin . 

On Friday, Russian President Putin said that "a transitional administration should be established in Ukraine" to end the war. Putin suggested that a temporary administration should be implemented under the supervision of the United Nations in Ukraine. But the proposal has been rejected by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

Russian authorities have repeatedly questioned Zelensky's legitimacy as president, saying that no elections were held after the end of his term and that he remained in office. Ukrainian President Zelensky was elected as President in the elections held on March 31, 2019.

Zelensky, who took office on May 20, 2019, has completed his five-year tenure ten months ago. But the date of the new vote in Ukraine has not been set . According to the Ukrainian constitution, elections cannot be held in the country under martial law. Martial law has been in force in Ukraine since Russia launched a full-scale invasion on 24 February 2022. 

Earlier, American President Trump also called Zelensky a "dictator" and accused him of "not holding an election" since coming to power. After American pressure, Zelensky reached the White House for the mineral deal. But Zelensky walked out without a deal after a heated argument with US President Trump and Vice President JD Vance. 

But the Trump administration canceled military and intelligence assistance to Ukraine. Because of this, Zelensky was ready to end the ceasefire and give the ownership of Ukrainian rare minerals to the US according to the US plan . After that, Trump has been generous towards Zelensky. 

In the talks with the US, Ukraine immediately agreed to a one-month ceasefire . But Russia was not ready for that. Russia rejected the proposal, saying a month-long ceasefire would give Ukraine a chance to regroup. Soon after, Trump and Putin had a telephone conversation again.  During the

talks, Putin agreed to halt attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure for a month. But he said that during the 30-day ceasefire period, no further military deployment or provision of weapons would be allowed from Ukraine. But the ceasefire did not last long. Both sides went on the attack and blamed each other for it. 

In the telephone conversation between Trump and Putin, it was agreed to talk soon about the security of goods transportation in the Black Sea. But Russia put forward the demand to remove some of the restrictions imposed by the Western countries. 

Within a few hours of the US saying that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to a black border ceasefire, Russia has said that the ban on its country's banks should be removed . Russia has put forward demands including lifting sanctions on state-owned agricultural bank Roselkhoz and restoring firms' access to the SWIFT international payment system. 

The European Union and its allies suspended Russian financial institutions' access to SWIFT after Russia launched an attack on Ukraine. The Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT) allows easy and fast transfer of money across borders . 

Payments for valuable energy and agricultural exports have been disrupted after Russian companies lost access to the usual smooth and instant transactions provided by SWIFT . Reversal of this decision will require the approval of the European Union . But this is not immediately possible as European countries have recently come out in support of Kiev. 

Russia Trump was angry with Putin after the US proposal of a month-long cease-fire, violation of the promise not to attack Ukrainian energy infrastructure, and the Russian move to advance the demand for a cease-fire in the Black Sea. On top of that, Putin said that in order to hold democratic elections in Ukraine, a competent government should be brought that the people trust and the United Nations should supervise.

Only then will Russia negotiate peace with the new government and sign a valid document, Putin says. Putin claims that such agreements will be reliable and stable as they will be recognized globally. He mentioned that Putin had such a practice, giving examples of the involvement of the United Nations in East Timor, New Guinea and parts of the former Yugoslavia.

But Putin's new proposal made Trump even more angry. Because of this, Trump responded that he was angry after Putin began to intrude on Zelensky's credibility. "New leadership means you won't have a long-term deal," Trump said.

Trump has also threatened to impose additional taxes on countries that buy Russian oil if Putin does not agree to a ceasefire. "If Russia and I are unable to reach an agreement to stop the bloodshed in Ukraine, and I think it is because of Russia  (Which may not happen) . I will impose more taxes on all the oil coming out of Russia,' the BBC quoted Trump as saying. 

Trump also says that the relationship with Putin is good and he does not think that he will go back on his word. "I think he will be good," he said. In recent weeks, European leaders have been concerned that Trump is being too friendly with Putin. But on Sunday, there was a change in it. 

Russian President Putin has not yet responded to this. But during a regular meeting with journalists, Dmitry Peskov, the spokesman of the Russian Presidential Office, Kremlin, said that Russia is working to strengthen bilateral relations with the United States. He also said that he is working on ending the war in Ukraine.
