As a result, the real information about the earthquake could not be obtained, according to the international media.

China has sent more than 135 rescue workers and experts as well as medical kits and generators. China is one of the biggest trading partners of the junta government.

Myanmar's military overthrew the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi in February 2021. The junta government has long been engaged in a bloody civil war with active rebels and newly formed pro-democracy forces. Even after the earthquake, military forces continued their attacks. It carried out three airstrikes in the northern state of Kayin, also known as Karenni, and in southern San. Both these states are bordering the earthquake-affected Mandale state.

Soldier Dave Yuvank, founder of the Free Burma Rangers, a humanitarian aid organization that has been providing aid to both fighters and civilians in Myanmar since the 1990s, told CBS News that the impact of the earthquake was minimal because most of the villages in the area had already been destroyed by the military. Minutes after the earthquake in northern San, 7 rebels were killed in an airstrike on a rebel-held village. 5 buildings, including a school, were damaged in the attack, according to the AP news agency, quoting Mai Ruko, editor of Shwe Phi Mye news agency in San.
