Police and doctors have informed that 43 workers were trapped when a 30-storey building under construction for a government office in Bangkok collapsed due to a powerful earthquake of 7.7 magnitude which was centered in Myanmar.
The building, located in the northern part of the Thai capital, was transformed into a twisted pile of rubble and metal in a matter of seconds.
On Friday afternoon, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck northwest of Sagaing city, according to the US Geological Survey. A few minutes later, an earthquake of 6.4 magnitude occurred in the same area.

Meanwhile, Thai authorities have declared a state of emergency in Bangkok. Prime Minister Shinawatra said a state of emergency was declared on Friday after an earthquake centered in Myanmar shook the city of Bangkok.
After the earthquake, it is reported that various buildings in Bangkok were damaged, among which a 30-story building under construction collapsed in the northern part of the city.
