The number of people killed in the Israeli attack exceeded 50,000

The number of Palestinians killed in the Gaza Strip in the Israeli attack has exceeded 50,000. According to the Ministry of Health run by Hamas, 50,021 people lost their lives in the 16-month long war.

This is 2.1 percent of Gaza's 2.3 million population, or about 1 in 50 people. The war between the two sides started when the Palestinian group Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023. According to the Ministry, 113 thousand 274 people were injured during this period.

The data collected by the Ministry of Health in Gaza is considered reliable by the United Nations and international organizations. But Israel has consistently denied the figures published by Gaza authorities.

But Israel has banned international journalists from entering Gaza freely. Therefore, it is not possible to verify the data from both sides, BBC said. But the number of civilians and fighters among those who lost their lives has not been separated.

The United Nations Human Rights Office released the data of 6 months last November and said that about 70 percent of the victims are women and children.

About 1,200 people were killed in an attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023. In addition, Hamas took 251 hostages. In the attacks since then, about 60 percent of the structures in the Gaza Strip have been destroyed.
