Russian attack in Kiev ahead of US-Ukraine talks, 3 killed

Three people were killed in an attack by the Russian army on the Ukrainian capital Kiev on Saturday night. According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the dead include a five-year-old daughter and her father.

With the Russian attack, a fire broke out in an apartment in Kiev and "everyone started screaming and running," the BBC reported, citing eyewitnesses.  The Ukrainian Air Force has reported that it shot down 97 drones out of 147 that were shot down last night.

Likewise, the Russian Ministry of Defense has also claimed to have shot down five dozen Ukrainian drones that were shot down from Ukraine. According to Russian officials, one person died after a car caught fire after the attack.

After the attack on his country's capital, Zelensky called for new pressure on Russia. "New decisions and new pressure on Moscow are needed to end these attacks and this war," Zelensky said. "These attacks are a daily reality."

The delegations of America and Ukraine are meeting in Saudi Arabia on Sunday. US President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Wittkoff, has said that the US expects "real progress" in the next round of peace talks in Saudi Arabia.

Our job is to narrow down the issues. It is to bring both parties together and stop the killings," he said. He says that Russian President Vladimir Putin "wants peace". Wittkoff says that much progress has been made in the talks between Trump and his Russian counterpart last week.

Russian President Putin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, called the phone conversation between the Russian President and his American counterpart Donald Trump this week "constructive and very respectful". Peskov told Russian state-run media that the phone conversation increased the possibility of a face-to-face meeting between the two leaders.

should be adequately prepared for such a meeting. First, there must be difficult technical negotiations. Only on Monday our negotiator will go to Riyadh to start this complicated process,' Peskov adds. Earlier, Trump also said that the phone conversation with Putin was "very good and productive".

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin had rejected the joint proposal put forward by the United States and Ukraine for a ceasefire. Putin, who refused to stop the war for 30 days, agreed to stop attacks on energy infrastructure for that period.
