Salah al-Bardaweel, the political leader of Hamas, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza. Bardweil, the southern city of Khan Younis, the southern city of Gaza, was killed in an attack by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), according to the BBC, citing a Hamas official.
According to locals, both Bardaweel and his wife died in the attack. Israeli officials have not commented on this.
The Israeli army has started attacking Gaza again since last Tuesday. Earlier, the ceasefire between the two sides came into effect on January 19. But Israel started attacking again, accusing Hamas of not committing to the agreement.
Hamas rejected the Israeli allegations and accused them of violating the ceasefire brokered by Qatar, Egypt and the United States. According to the Health Ministry run by Hamas, 32 people have been killed in the last 24 hours in Gaza by the IDF.
Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7, 2023. About 1200 people were killed in that attack and 251 people were taken hostage by Hamas. After the
incident, more than 49,500 Palestinians have been killed in Israel's retaliatory attack on Gaza.
