A senior leader of the Islamic State (ISIS) group for Iraq and Syria has been killed in an operation carried out by the Iraqi National Intelligence Service in cooperation with the US-led coalition forces.

According to the Iraqi Prime Minister, Prime Minister Mohammad Siya al-Sudani, Abdullah Makki Muslih al-Rifai, known as Abu Khadijah, "one of the most dangerous terrorists in Iraq and the world," was killed in the operation. He was killed in a 'precision air attack' by the US Central Command (CENTCOM) in Iraq's western Al Anbar province.

According to the US Central Command, Rifai was the head of IS's decision-making body. He was responsible for the material and planning of attacks, shootings, etc. carried out by IS worldwide. According to Centcom  Rifai has been managing and mobilizing finances for the group's global organization.

With the Sudanese Prime Minister stating that Rifai was killed, US President Donald Trump said that the US has been looking for him for a long time. "Our fearless fighters were constantly looking for him," he said.

In coordination with the Iraqi government and the Kurdish regional government, his miserable life was ended along with another member of ISIS. Peace through strength!' Trump wrote on his social network Truth Social.

According to Centcom, Rifai was found dead along with another IS operative after the operation. "Both terrorists were wearing unexploded 'suicide jackets' and they had many weapons," CENTCOM said.

Rifai managed to escape in the previous attack by Centcom and Iraqi forces. But he was identified based on the DNA collected at that time. General Michael Eric Kurilla said that Rifai is one of the most important members of the IS global organization.

"We will continue to kill terrorists and destroy their organizations who threaten our homeland and the United States, as well as our allies and partner personnel in the region and beyond," he said.

At one time, the IS, which controlled 88,000 square kilometers of land stretching from north-eastern Syria to northern Iraq, imposed a brutal regime on about 8 million people.

Iraq, which declared victory over IS in December 2017, drove the group from its last territory in 2019. However, IS in different areas in Iraq has been conducting sporadic attacks against the Iraqi army and police.
