Security forces have freed 155 people who were held hostage by armed rebels in the Balochistan region of Pakistan. According to Pakistani media, 27 rebels and 30 security personnel were killed while freeing the hostages.
During the rescue, 37 passengers were injured. According to Pakistani railway officials, there were more than 400 passengers in the train with 9 compartments.
The rebel group Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) attacked the Jafar Express train from Quetta to Peshawar on Tuesday and took several passengers hostage. The security personnel said that many passengers are still under the control of BLA.
Earlier, BLA said that 214 of the 425 passengers on the train were taken hostage. According to a military official, more than a hundred army personnel who boarded the train from Quetta were travelling.
