Twelve civilians and six terrorists were killed when terrorists attacked a cantonment area in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province.

32 others were injured. A group of terrorists including suicide bombers tried to enter the cantonment area but failed due to the timely response of security forces in Bannu district of the province, Pakhtunkhwa government spokesman Mohammad Ali Saif said. 

After a powerful explosion, nearby buildings and the roof of a mosque have collapsed. In which 12 civilians died and 32 people were injured. After the incident, a large team of police, security forces and rescue teams reached the spot and took the injured to the district headquarters hospital. 

The condition of many is said to be serious. According to hospital sources, a state of emergency has been declared in all the hospitals of the district. The Hafiz Gul Bahadur group of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has claimed responsibility for the attack by releasing a message on social media. 

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari strongly condemned the terrorist attack and described the attack in the holy month of Ramadan as a heinous act.
