The US has imposed a 25 percent import tax on various goods imported from Canada and Mexico from Tuesday. US President Donald Trump has imposed a tariff on Canada and Mexico for failing to stop illegal immigration and the smuggling of illegal fentanyl.

A 10 percent tax has been imposed on Canadian energy production. Likewise, 10 percent tax has also been added to imports from China. The new tax was introduced hours before Trump addressed a joint session of Congress for the first time in his second term.

Trump, starting his second term in the White House, announced heavy tariffs on foreign goods . Trump has already said that he will impose a 10 percent tax on goods entering the United States from China and the European Union.

Canada and China have responded immediately to the American decision. Canada announced a 25 percent import tax on $1.55 billion worth of American goods .

Similarly, China has announced additional tariffs of up to 15 percent on imports of key US agricultural products, including chicken, pork, soybeans and beef.  Similarly, China has imposed export controls and other restrictions on about two dozen US companies. China has announced that the new tariffs and sanctions will take effect on March 10.
