Who is Burma to defeat Kejriwal?

Former Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) founder Arvind Kejriwal has been defeated in the elections held on Wednesday in the Indian state of Delhi. Kejriwal, who became the chief minister of Delhi three times, was defeated by Pravesh Burma of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Kejriwal was defeated by 4 thousand 89 votes.

In 2013, Kejriwal came into limelight after defeating former Chief Minister Sheila Dixit. In the same region, he was defeated by Burma. With that, Dixit's 15-year rule ended. Sandeep, the son of former Chief Minister Dixit, stood third in this election.

After defeating the AAP chief, Burma's name has come into the news as the future Chief Minister . The party will decide on this after February 8. If they make me Chief Minister, I will fulfill their demands,' Parvesh Burma said about his chances while talking to 'The Indian Express' during the election campaign last January.

In 2015, Kejriwal won with 64.14 percent votes. In 2020, he got 61.1 percent of votes. But recently, the election competition in Delhi has become intense . He accused his BJP of tampering with the voter list, distributing various materials when the code of conduct was implemented.

47-year-old is the son of former Burma Chief Minister and former BJP Vice-President Sahib Singh Burma . During the election campaign, he made many promises to build a riverfront on the river Yamuna like Sabarmati, give houses to the slum dwellers, build infrastructure, provide 50,000 government jobs, flyovers and make the national capital pollution-free.

During the election campaign, the supporters put him forward as the chief ministerial candidate . The slogan 'Delhi CM Kaisa Ho, Parvesh Verma Jaisa Ho' (What is the Chief Minister of Delhi, like Parvesh Burma),' became very famous. Burma said 'Let's remove Kejriwal, save the nation' and raised the slogan.

Burma was elected to the Delhi Assembly in 2013 from Mehrauli and was a member of the Lok Sabha for two terms from 2014. Burma, who has been active in the BJP for three decades, started his election campaign in mid-January. A few weeks before that, he had visited various places to find out the needs of the locals living in slums in New Delhi.

'Many people in Jhugi Jhupadi (JJ) have not got free water and electricity . I want to say this openly .   are getting clean water and free electricity, please vote for Kejriwal . Those who don't get it, vote for BJP,' he used to repeatedly repeat in the election meetings . There are about three lakh JJ families in Delhi, India. A large number of them live in the New Delhi Assembly constituency .

Last December, the Aam Aadmi Party accused Burma of 'giving 1100 rupees to each woman to buy votes'. In response, Verma said that he was helping them through his father's organization.

During his election campaign, Burma also raised the issue of the Chief Minister's official residence. He also kept a model of the Chief Minister's residence, which the opposition called 'Sheesh Mahal', outside his residence. Kejriwal has done nothing for Delhi in the last 11 years. Kejriwal was busy building Sheesh Mahal for himself while all of you were dying of Covid,' Verma said in the election meeting.
