After US President Donald Trump announced the imposition of additional import taxes on materials produced in his country, Canada, Mexico and China have also announced that they will impose similar taxes.

President Trump previously announced a 25 percent import tax on imports from Canada and Mexico and a 10 percent import tax on imports from China. But a 10 percent duty has been imposed on energy imports from Canada. It is said that the new tax announced by Trump will be implemented from Tuesday.

In a public statement on the X social network, Trump said he used emergency economic powers because of the threat of illegal immigration and deadly drugs. China has accused the use of fentanyl and Mexico and Canada have allowed illegal immigrants to cross the border.

With Trump's decision, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced a 25 percent tariff on imports worth $155 billion produced in the United States, according to the BBC.

Prime Minister Trudeau said that Trump's new steps will have a "long-term impact" and that new taxes have been imposed on goods including beer, wine, vegetables, fruits and juices, clothes and shoes produced in the United States. Similarly, he said that the new tax will affect the furniture and sports equipment, minerals, contracts and other sectors.

Trudeau says that the citizens and workers of both countries will be affected by the American action and the decision taken by his country in response. "We didn't want this situation." But we will not back down from standing up for Canadian citizens,' he said.

Likewise, Mexican President Claudia Seinbaum has also said that her country will retaliate against the US. Seinbaum responded to the US decision and said that the White House's statement "insulted" the Mexican government. Trump has accused the Mexican government and Mexican drug lords of an 'illegal relationship'.

Seinbaum said that US gun manufacturers would be selling powerful weapons to criminal groups if the alliance that Trump says existed. Mexico has in recent years called for an end to arms trafficking to stop such organized gangs.

After Trump's move, China has also said that no one will win the trade war. China is also preparing to take 'similar countermeasures' and file a case with the World Trade Organization, according to the BBC. "China is deeply dissatisfied with this and strongly opposes it," China said in a statement.

Beijing says that the US action will damage the normal economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. China says that the US should correct its 'erroneous concept' and solve the problem with the Chinese side on the basis of 'equality, mutual benefit and mutual respect'.

Last year, imports from China, Mexico and Canada to the US were more than 40 percent . It is said that the new import duties and countermeasures will make cars, vehicle parts, steel, tomatoes, avocados, beer, etc. more expensive. Economists say that the new tax will increase the average car price in the US to three thousand dollars.
