Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has said that he is ready for the "just return" of Indian citizens living in the US "illegally". Speaking to reporters, Jaishankar, who met the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday, said that India is ready to take back its citizens who are staying illegally in the US.
"If our citizens are not living here legally and they are citizens of our country, we are always ready for their just return to India," he said.
US President Trump signed executive orders to deport those living in the US illegally.
According to the data of Pew Research Center, the number of Indians living illegally in America is on the third place. It is said that the verification process of illegal immigrants sent to India is continuing.
According to the latest data, India has said that it is working with the Trump administration to deport about 18,000 illegal or undocumented Indians in America. Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar said that the number is yet to be confirmed.
According to the Pew Research Center, there are an estimated 725,000 undocumented Indian immigrants in the United States. This is the second largest number after Mexico and El Salvador.
