The British Parliament House of Commons has raised the issue of Nepal's climate change impact. MP Alex Baker of the ruling Labor Party raised the issue in Parliament on Tuesday.

Baker questioned, 'Nepal is at the last stage of fighting climate change. Towards the end of last year, we saw 200 people die in floods in Kathmandu. What is the British government doing to help this country, which has become a partner and friend of Britain for many years?'

Member of Parliament Baker is also the president of the 'All Party Parliamentary Group on Nepal' which represents areas such as Aldershot and Farnborough, which are densely populated by ex-Gurkha soldiers and Nepali communities. In response to Baker's question, British Foreign Minister David Lammy promised that the British government would continue to support Nepal in dealing with the effects of climate change. Foreign Minister Lammy said that the British government has helped Nepal to deal with the effects of climate change with 38.5 million pounds (about 6.5 billion rupees).

He also said that it has been decided to give 58 million pounds (about 10 billion rupees) of aid for the next eight years to reduce the effects of climate change in Nepal.  Foreign Minister Lamy also said that Britain's relationship with Nepal is important on the issue of climate change.

Member of Parliament Baker a day ago on Monday at the Nepali Embassy in London, senior leader of Nepali Congress Dr. She met with Shekhar Koirala, Acting Ambassador Bipin Duwadi and others.

'Alex came to the embassy after we invited her. In that meeting, we asked Parliamentarian Baker to bring sensitive issues like climate change, former Gurkhas to the Parliament, Duwadi told Kantipur. Duwadi said that the next meeting with him will be held soon and the rest of the case will also be discussed.

After the formation of the new Labor government, in August last year, the UK announced that it would support Nepal with 38.5 million pounds for the 'Resilience, Adaptation and Inclusion' (RAIN) program.  Earlier, during the government led by the then Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, it was announced that about 10 billion rupees would be provided to Nepal.
