South Korea's suspended president Yoon Suk-yeol has been arrested. Yun was arrested on Wednesday morning by security personnel and officers from the Corruption Investigation Office at his residence in the capital, Seoul, the BBC reported.

This is the first case in which the president has been arrested in South Korea. Yun was arrested in the second attempt. Earlier attempts by the security personnel to arrest him had failed. Yun escaped arrest after security personnel of the Presidential Security Service (PSS) stopped the officers who went to arrest him. Besides that, his supporters also obstructed his arrest.

Even on Wednesday, supporters tried to prevent Yoon from being arrested. The Corruption Investigation Office obtained an arrest warrant against Yoon from the West Seoul District Court after he did not appear when called for questioning. According to the BBC, officials of the Corruption Investigation Office are interrogating him after his arrest.

In December, 3 Yun was suspended by parliament after he unexpectedly imposed martial law. After that step, the MPs of his own party also voted in the impeachment motion registered by the opposition party. The final decision on his impeachment is yet to be made by the Constitutional Court.

The court has started hearing about this from Tuesday. But because Yun was absent, Tuesday's first hearing was over in four minutes. Another hearing on this matter is scheduled for Thursday.
