After the 6.8 magnitude earthquake in Dingri County of Xichang Autonomous Region in China on Tuesday morning, the Everest region (Chomolongma) has been temporarily closed.

So far, 53 people have been killed and 62 injured in the earthquake, according to the Regional Disaster Relief Headquarters.

According to the Dingri Culture and Tourism Bureau, the hotel building and the surrounding area in the Chomolangma area are unsettled and tourists and staff are safe.

There has been a power cut at Kimolung Station of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Dingri. The Weather Forecast Division has said that the temperature in Dingri will range from minus 18 degree Celsius to below zero.
