An Azerbaijani passenger ship crashed in Kazakhstan. The BBC reported that the ship carrying 62 passengers and 5 crew members went down near the Aktau region of Kazakhstan.
The Ministry of Emergency Services of Kazakhstan said that some people were able to survive the accident. According to the preliminary information, 25 people on the ship managed to survive and 22 of them were taken to the hospital for treatment, according to the authorities of Kazakhstan.
According to emergency service officials in Kazakhstan, the Azerbaijan Airlines plane was on fire when it arrived at the crash site. Later, the fire on the ship was extinguished. CNN reported that there were 37 passengers from Azerbaijan, 16 from Russia, 6 from Kazakhstan, and 3 from Kyrgyzstan.
Azerbaijan Airlines flight number J2-8243 was going from Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, to Grozny, Chechnya. According to local media, the plane was diverted to Kazakhstan due to fog. Azerbaijan Airlines has not yet mentioned anything about the accident, according to the BBC.
