A refugee minister has died in a bomb blast in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. According to the Taliban, refugee minister Khalil ur-Rahman Haqqani and five others were killed in the explosion.

The Taliban spokesman confirmed that Minister Haqqani was killed, Reuters reported. An official of the Ministry of Interior reported that an explosion was carried out at the Ministry of Refugees in the capital, Kabul, according to news agency AP.

No one has claimed the responsibility for the explosion so far. Haqqani, who is handling Afghanistan's refugee crisis, is also the uncle of current interior minister Sirajuddin Haqqani.

After the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan in 2021, Haqqani became a minister in the interim government of the Taliban.

The US State Department said he was a senior leader of the powerful Haqqani network, responsible for many violent attacks during the Taliban's two-decade-long armed campaign.
