South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol announced martial law on Tuesday. He said the move was necessary to protect the country from "communist forces" amid parliamentary struggles over the budget bill.

"To protect a liberal South Korea from the threat posed by the communist power of North Korea and eliminate anti-state elements... I therefore declare emergency martial law," Yun said in a live televised address to the nation. He has weakened the regime only to protect his leader from justice.'

The People Power Party and the main opposition Democratic Party continue to fight over next year's budget bill. This surprising move by President Yun has come. Opposition MPs approved the significantly reduced budget plan through a parliamentary committee last week.

"Our National Assembly has become a haven for criminals, a haven for legislative dictatorships that seek to paralyze the judicial and administrative systems and subvert our liberal democratic system," Yun said. He accused the opposition lawmakers of turning the country into a drug haven and a state of public safety chaos by cutting all major budgets necessary for the nation's core functions such as fighting drug crimes and maintaining public safety.

Yun called the opposition, which holds a majority in the 300-member parliament, "anti-state forces that want to overthrow the regime" and called his decision "inevitable". "I will remove the anti-state forces as soon as possible and return the country to normalcy," he said.
