US President Joe Biden has formally pardoned his son Hunter, who is serving a sentence in two criminal cases. Biden issued a statement and claimed that his son was isolated.
President Biden has called the case against his son Hunter a 'collapse of justice'. Due to this, Biden claims that he has to apologize.
"From the day I assumed the office of the President, I said that I would not interfere in the decision-making process of the Ministry of Justice, and even though my son was being prosecuted separately and unfairly, I kept my word," he said.
Biden had previously said that he would not pardon his son or reduce his sentence. But at the end of his tenure, he issued a full and unconditional pardon to his son.
Last September, the press secretary of the White House announced that President Biden would not pardon his son. On Sunday, Biden claimed that politics has infected the justice system and it has caused a miscarriage of justice.
'I made this decision because there is no point in delaying it any longer,' Biden said, 'I believe the American people will understand why a father and a president made this decision.'
Hunter Biden was convicted of tax fraud last September. The punishment was yet to be determined. In that case, it was said that he could be sentenced to 17 years in prison.
Also, he was convicted last June of illegally buying a gun and lying about his drug use. Hunter is the first child of a sitting president to be convicted of any crime. It was said that he could be punished up to 25 years. The sentencing dates for those cases were fixed for December 12 and 16.
Donald Trump will take over the office of the President of the United States from January 20. Until then, Biden will remain in office . Convicted himself, Donald Trump responded that the pardon given to Hunter was an "abuse and miscarriage of justice".
Hunter claims mistakes he made during his darkest days as an addict were 'used to publicly exploit and humiliate' his family in the political game. "I will never take lightly the pardon I have been given today." I will dedicate my life to helping those who are sick and suffering,' said Hunter, 54.
