On this day (August 9) in 1945, America dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Nagasaki. Before that, America had dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan.
On December 7, 1941, the United States entered World War II after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. At least 2300 American soldiers were killed in the bombing. After that, the US announced that it would take revenge on Japan.
During World War II, Germany was occupied by the Soviet Union on April 30, 1945. Germany surrendered on May 8 after Hitler committed suicide. World War II ended in Europe with the surrender of Germany. However, Japan continued to fight in Asia.
Japan was already weakened and was about to be defeated. But with the intention of taking revenge on Japan for refusing to surrender, America dropped the 'Little Boy' atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Immediately after that, after Japan's request for surrender was rejected, America dropped the 'Fat Man' bomb on Nagasaki. Japan surrendered 6 days later. At least 200,000 people died due to two bomb attacks.
